The 5th China (Hong Kong) International Service Trade Fair was grandly kicked off in HK Convention and Exhibition Center on November 2, 2011. Qiu Hong, Assistant Minister of Commerce of China, Gregory So Kam-leung, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of Hong Kong SAR, and Fred Lam, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), attended the Service Trade Development Forum and delivered a speech respectively. Guo Li, Deputy Director of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR, was present. The theme of Service Trade Development Forum 2011 is “Common Development, Opportunity Sharing”. Qiu Hong stated in her speech that the Mainland and HK would, around such theme, take in-depth discussions on measures and ideas on making consensuses and seizing opportunities for common development, which is significant for us to further deepen cooperation and realize win-win.Qiu said, to enhance the cooperation in service trade with HK is not only beneficial for HK to enter the broad market of the Mainland and promote the economic prosperity of HK, but also beneficial for the Mainland to learn from the international professional services and advanced management experiences of HK and promote the improvement of the service industry of the two sides.Qiu put forward that, during the period of 12th Five-Year Plan, there is a great prospect to enhance the mutual cooperation in service trade for the two sides. The year 2011 is the first year of China’s 12th Five-Year Plan. It is clearly pointed out in the Draft of China's 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) to vigorously develop service trade, promote service export and open service industry wider to the rest of the world. Meanwhile, the Central Government formulated new policies and measures to support the further development of HK in the Draft. Besides, the negotiation on CEPA Supplemental Agreement VIII is underway. According to CEPA Supplemental Agreement VIII, the Mainland will take more active measures to expand its opening-up for both traditional and emerging services of HK, enrich the content of trade and investment facilitation, substantially expand the favorability of CEPA, and basically realize the trade liberalization of service trade between HK and the Mainland at the end of the 12th Five-Year Plan. The implementation of CEPA and supplemental agreements will further improve the trade and cooperation in service between the two sides and inject new vigor for the development of HK service trade. The development of service trade of the two sides has its respective advantages, so Qiu hoped that service enterprises of the two sides could seize opportunities, take in-depth exchanges and enhance cooperation so as to jointly promote the fast and sound development of China’s service trade.Finally, Qiu Hong stressed that the global service trade would enter into a new development period in chance and challenge. The Mainland will accelerate to develop service trade related t the strategic emerging industries; actively explore new sectors of service trade based on the development of the producer service industry; strive to foster information technology service, technical trade, bank and other financial services, environment-friendly and energy-saving services and distribution services so as to optimize the structure of service trade; and take full use of CEPA to constantly deepen the cooperation in service with HK and positively promote the comprehensive development of China’s service trade. Enterprises from the Mainland and HK and relevant institutions spoke highly of this fair. Over 400 officials and businessmen attended the Service Trade Development Forum. More than 200 enterprises of the two sides took exchanges and negotiations on the sectors of enterprise internationalization, financing & listing, industrial design, Chinese traditional medicine, service outsourcing and animation design and had in-depth discussions on issues of how to deepen and enhance industrial cooperation and how to exploit the international market.China (Hong Kong) International Service Trade Fair is a platform, co-sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and HKTDC, for cooperation and exchanges with the purpose of boosting China’s service trade to “go global”. The yearly fair has been successfully held for four times in HK since 2007. Service enterprises from the Mainland and HK take full use of this platform to have in-depth exchanges and discussions on cooperation and have made active contribution to the common flourish of the two sides and the comprehensive development of China’s service trade.
